Real estate is not for the shy. To make it in this business you must be ambitious, independent, and exceptionally determined. Receiving your real estate license is only the foundation upon which you must build your reputation, clientele, and top it off with success.
Anyone who is at least eighteen years old, graduated from high school, and has the dedication for studying, can pass the real estate license exam.

The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) certification is well know and highly regarded in the industry. About 10,000 real estate agents in the U.S. hold this certification. The ABR trains you in ethical and professional aspects of buyer representation. It shows clients you have gone the extra mile and continued your education. It demonstrates you're experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated to your career.
The Accredited Buyer Representative Manager (ABRM) is a certification for those representing the buyer on a daily basis. This is appropriate for real estate firm brokers, owners, and managers. This certification shows clientele you are more than qualified, but just as importantly it shows your employees you are a leader.
Those in residential real estate will benefit by participating in the Realtor Institute program and earn the Graduate Realtor Institution (GRI) designation. Only about 11% of the realtors have this designation nation wide. A GRI will provide vital information for your practice. It will show your clients that you come from a solid background and that you will provide them with great information.
For residential real estate associates, receiving the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) certification is an honor to say the least. Only 3% of realtors in the U.S. have this certification. The CRS is awarded to those who have completed the special training, achieved superior sales, and met the high standards of performance in the real estate industry. A GRI designation is a prerequisite to the CRS.
The Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation is geared to senior property owners. This is offered through the Senior Advantage Real Estate Council (SAREC). Those who receive an SRES will be able to advise senior clients in finances and purchasing homes.
With there being so many aspects in the real estate business, a specialty certification can help you hone your skills beyond the typical residential sale. The following are a few relatively new certifications, known as specialty.
Becoming a CIPS will open the door of opportunity. The CIPS network includes 1,500 real estate professionals from 50 countries. The primary focus is on the international market. CIPS designees are the consumers' best resource to ensure they are dealing with a professional skilled in the unique aspects of international real estate. This certification gives you great prospects for networking and making connections with fellow realtors across the globe.
For all the above said reasons, real estate certification can only benefit you. To make it in the real estate business there is a lot you need to know, but your clientele are by far the most important. You must work to preserve and improve your clientele. In order for referrals, clients must be able to trust you. Although a smile goes a long way, getting a real estate certification provides clientele with the comfort of a third party validation of your skills.
