It increases the merit level of your work, giving you an advantage over the competition, effectively raising your potential to earn a significantly higher salary.

Internal auditing is a career field where there is no room for error. It is the internal auditor’s job to be completely accurate all the time. Verifying accounts, records, and other systems to check for mismanagement, waste, or fraud can not be done haphazardly. This is why getting certified is so highly regarded by employers.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) offers certification for those in the internal auditing field. Those who are certified through the IIA have a huge advantage in the job market. The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is awarded to those who fulfill the following requirements: they have graduated from an accredited college or university, have worked for two years as an internal auditor, and passed the four-part intensive exam. Those with a CIA show they have the skills and abilities to do their job better and beyond the requirements. They will be able to ensure employers their business is running as efficiently as it possibly can and the records are kept perfectly. Overall, by receiving this internal auditing certification will give you the one-up on your peers and prospects for promotion; which means more money.

Computers are quickly changing the way auditing is done with new software and the internet. It is important for internal auditors to be current with technical information. The Information Systems Audit and Control Association offer a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). A CISA is awarded to those who have five years or more experience in auditing electronic data processing systems. Up to two years work experience can be replaced with auditing or data processing experience and college education.

The American Society for Quality (ASQ) offers fourteen certifications for all sorts of careers. For auditing they offer the Certified Quality Auditor (CQA). This certification was established to promote broader application and use of quality auditing principles for effective business management purposes. This certification shows a commitment to quality to employers. The ASQ has over sixty years of experience. They are the leading organization for career-boosting certifications. According to their website www.asq.org, 50.5% of the U.S. respondents have at least one ASQ certification. 38.9% have earned two certifications. In December of 2005, U.S. respondents who have at least one certification from the ASQ earned an average salary of $72,880, whereas those who were uncertified earn less, at an average of $71,744.

The numbers do not lie, by receiving an internal auditing certification you will see the results you are looking for. Then, go for two certifications.
